– A highlight of the triple-header will be Xie’s debut at the famous Monaco GP
– A proven champion, Xie has stepped up to F3 this year as he pursues a career in Formula 1
18-year-old Chinese racing talent, Gerrard Xie, is about to embark on the biggest challenge of his debut Formula 3 Championship season, a triple header starting this weekend at Imola across May 16-18.
Rounds three, four, and five of the 2025 Formula 3 title chase will be held on three consecutive weekends, with the intense program set to ask all of the series’ competitors to dig deep.
For Xie, enjoying his debut season this year, the challenge will be even larger, with the driver of the #16 Hitech entry not having raced at any of the three upcoming tracks before.
The triple-event line-up follows the opening two rounds of the championship, held at Australia’s Melbourne GP in March (14-16 March) and at Bahrain International Circuit in April (11-13).

At both of these events, Xie demonstrated gritty determination to climb through the highly competitive fields in the sprint races, including 9 positions in Melbourne and 10 positions in Bahrain.
To prepare, Xie has just returned from a long break following the event in Bahrain, which included intensive training – both physical and on the racing simulator.
The coming races will provide a perfect intensive environment for Xie to pursue his aim of becoming increasingly skilled with the all-new 2025 Formula 3 race car by Dallara, while seeking to improve in each and every race.
Each round will feature practice, qualifying, a sprint race, and a feature race, with Imola this weekend (16-18 May) and Barcelona (30 May-1 June) to be held across Friday-Sunday while the Monaco GP will be contested across a four-day Thursday-Sunday schedule (22-25 May).
Imola’s 4.909km Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari is one of the few major international circuits to run anticlockwise, and its narrow and technical nature, limited overtaking opportunities, and combination of high-speed corners and demanding braking zones will require precision and skill.
Following Imola, the iconic Monaco Grand Prix will beckon, with this event set to realise a childhood dream for Xie. Winding through the hilly streets of Monte Carlo, the circuit’s elevation changes, narrow width, tight corners, and dearth of run-off errors require pinpoint accuracy from drivers. While the challenge is large, the rewards are even larger, with this famous event often described as a place at which dreams are made.
The next weekend, the 4.657km Circuit De Barcelona- Catalunya will host round five across its technical and flowing circuit layout. Its mix of fast and slow corners, long straights, elevation changes and aerodynamic balancing requirements will call for unwavering focus.
Hailing from China’s Greater Bay Area, he first made a name for himself in karting before dominating the 2022 Chinese Formula 4 Championship, where he claimed the title with an impressive 13 race wins. His move abroad to Europe for the GB3 Championship further honed his skills, earning him several victories and podium
